PERSONAL TRAINING

Personal Training can be an extremely effective way to make exercise work for YOU. Personal training offers the elements of accountability, efficiency, inspiration, and safety that can make all the difference in the world when it comes to results and the enjoyment of exercise. The one on one attention makes time fly by. You have fun while you work harder and more effectively than you would on your own.

There are a variety of personal training packages available at special pricing, ranging from 3 to 12 sessions.  Talk with any of our personal trainers about your choices.

At Island Athletic Club, we have a talented team of fitness professionals ready to serve you.  Our Fitness Director, Teresa Hobbs, heads up this outstanding group of individuals.  Teresa is here to develop the talent and expertise of our personal trainers for your benefit.  All trainers have national certifications and education to help you in your pursuit of fitness goals.  Meet the staff:

Teresa Moreau

Teresa graduated from Western Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in Fitness and Exercise Science and Health Promotion.

She has extensive experience as a Personal Trainer, designing programs for people of all ages and abilities.  Her workouts are thorough and effective, fun and challenging. 

For seniors she emphasizes weight-bearing activities and strengthening exercises to enhance the quality of everyday activities.  For athletes, she increases the workout intensity to match client goals.  Her background as a track and basketball student athlete grounds her in the issues related to sports specific conditioning.

Teresa heads our department of fitness trainers and brought the concept of the Fitness Challenge to Whidbey Island. 

Bart Rulon

Bart Rulon lives and works on Whidbey Island . He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky in scientific illustration, a major he created. He graduated with honors and became a full-time artist, focusing on wildlife and landscape subjects and specializing in birds.

As a biologist turned artist, Bart has traveled extensively including long trips to Africa, India, and South America. Bart's works have been exhibited in many of the finest exhibitions, museums and galleries which display wildlife and landscape art in the United States, Canada, Sweden, Japan, and England. His paintings have been included in the Arts for the Parks Top 100 exhibition and national tour seven times, and in 1994 he won their Bird Art Award. He was also selected as the Audubon Alliance Artist of the Year for 1998. For more information, check out www.bartrulon.com .

Fitness is important to Bart and he brings his high standards to personal training here at Island Athletic Club . He is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise.

Lila Browne

Lila has lived on islands most of her life, Oahu, Whidbey Island, and most recently in the Caribbean. In college she competed in soccer and has always enjoyed fitness and conditioning. 

Lila has developed a great class for members - FIT - Functional Integrative Training.  She mixes fun with balance and strengthening so everyone enjoys getting their basic exercise. 

She leads Group Personal Training and individual Personal Training, sharing her knowledge of free weights and advanced exercises.  She is certified as a personal trainer by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.


Lila Haynes

Lila is passionate and committed to helping others reach their goals.  She lost 30 lbs through healthy eating and exercise and has kept it off for two years.  She first worked at Island Athletic Club in Member Service and developed her interest in personal training after seeing its benefits to the members.  Lila is now a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.  She says the inspiration works both ways - her clients inspire her with their success and she inspires them with her commitment.

Thomas Gee

Thomas was born and raised in Homer, Alaska where he divided his time among being a student, an athlete and a commercial fisherman.  With a strong background in athletics, and as a Navy veteran, Thomas understands commitment.  He knows that physical training requires mental and emotional components.  After shattering his leg two years ago, and spending the next six months learning to walk again, he can empathize with people overcoming obstacles, making life changes and finding success.  Thomas' goal is to motivate each of his clients to live a fit lifestyle.  He designs training programs that are individualized, safe and effective.  He encourages sound nutritional habits and believes in the strength of a positive self-image.

Thomas is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
