Magic
Change Jar
Blake and Lynn
Willeford at The Clyde have been joined by Diana and Kelly Lindsay at
Lindsay Communications and Debora Valis and Steve Shapiro
at Island Athletic Club in matching the first $250 put in the snackbar
tip jar for each charity.
It's an easy way to raise $1,000 at a time for organizations like
Good Cheer, Hearts & Hammers,
and Friends of Friends Medical Support Fund, and
Whidbey Camano Land Trust. A quarter put
in the jar becomes $1 for a good cause, every dollar bill will
turn into $4. And that's certainly magic!
Clyde
Haiti Challenge
The charity change jar
on the snackbar of The Clyde Theatre is about to perform some magic
for the people of Haiti. The business match has doubled, from a
maximum of $250 each from The Clyde, Lindsay Communications, and
Island Athletic Club to a maximum of $500 per business. “We made
a courtesy call to our Magic Change Jar partners,” Clyde owner Blake
Willeford said, “but we knew without a doubt that Debora and Steve
and Kelly and Diana would be on board.”
Donations for Haiti will
be going to three known and trusted organizations working in Haiti—Habitat
for Humanity, Heifer International and Partners in Health, the nonprofit
run by Dr. Paul Farmer profiled in Tracy Kidder's best-selling book
Mountains Beyond Mountains.
The Magic Change Jar partners
are issuing a challenge to other businesses, organizations, churches,
and individuals in the community to match the patron donations as
well.
With the matches from
The Clyde, Island Athletic Club, and Lindsay Communications, every
$1 put in the canning jar on the snackbar will magically turn into
$4 for Haiti. “We'd like to see enough other groups or individuals
join us in matching patron donations so every dollar turns into
$10 ,” says Lynn Willeford.
Anyone interested in adding
their name or the name of their business to the list of Magic Change
Jar match partners for the January/February Clyde Haiti Challenge
should contact the Willefords at info@theclyde.net
or 730-7915. Each partner will be responsible only for matching
up the first $500 donated by Clyde patrons. More information about
the chosen organizations and how they are working in Haiti can be
found at www.habitat.org ,
www.heifer.org , and www.pih.org
. All checks should be written to one of those organizations
(not The Clyde), and dropped off or mailed to the theater at P.O.
Box 199, Langley 98260.
